Although a chain, and usually I don't review restaurant chains, Loch Fyne is at the upper end in terms of quality and presentation. The Hertford restaurant is warm, friendly and well decked with a good atmosphere. The food well balanced, and although I doubt that all the ingredients are from this particular part of North West Scotland, it's all very good and what's more, fresh.
To the meal. I started with a lobster bisque which was good in both depth and colour. I would have liked at least a morsel of tail meat, but hey ho.
On to main. A very well presented and equally cooked fillet of gilt head bream. On a bed of spinach, clams and scallop. Unfortunately only one scallop cut into two. And only three clams. But all well cooked.
Dessert was a fine posset of raspberry and white chocolate with a delightful vanilla macaroon.
But to be fair, these three courses came with a glass of champagne and all for £34.95 which is great value.
Also we got another glass of fizz for free. This was a set meal but still great value. I will say that the usual menu is as normal, trying to cater for all, with steaks and thai etc.
Drinks wise good choice of wines. As you would expect not much on the red side but enough. Surprisingly not much on the spirit side.
All in all a great and intimate night had for couples, and if the sound from the table behind us is anything to go by, a great night for a girls night out!
